An Afternoon in the 2020 Lincoln MKZ

March 10th, 2021 by

No weekend plans? Get ready to spend an afternoon exploring all that the MacKenzie Art Gallery has to offer. Arrive there in style with the 2020 Lincoln MKZ.

Exhibit Exuberance

With five different exhibits currently on view at the gallery, there’s an abundance of stimulating art, culture, and knowledge to be explored.

Multiple Lives of Drawings: European Graphic Art 1500-1800

“Curated by University of Regina art historian Dr. Francesco Freddolini and Head Curator Timothy Long, the exhibition showcases how drawing was a shared medium and practice both north and south of the Alps throughout the Renaissance and Baroque.” The curators have uncovered a number of pivotal discoveries that highlight the social life of both artists.

This exhibition will be present for viewing until April 5, 2021.

Christina Battle: Connecting Thru Grasses

The habitat of the prairies is highly endangered in Canada. “Connecting thru grasses considers how we might both map and define prairie boundaries anew. Considering how satellites passing overhead reflect an image of the earth (and thus of ourselves) back to us, and how these images shape or mis-shape our understanding of the land and our relationship to it, the work looks closer at TERRA, a research satellite that has circled the earth since 1999 constructing images for use in the monitoring of environmental and climate data.”

This exhibition will be present for viewing until May 30, 2021.

Travelling Memory

This new installation is titled Travelling Memory: Sitting Bull’s Robe, The MacKenzie’s Art School, and The Art and Concepts of Game Design for Youth. It explores and details the interpretation of the Sitting Bull’s robe as explained by artist and knowledge keeper Wayne Goodwill. The story of the Sitting Bull’s robe is directly tied to The Art and Concepts of Game Design for Youth. This was the first class offered by the MacKenzie’s Art School.

This exhibition will be present for viewing until April 5, 2021.

Human Capital

“Human Capital presents work that offers insight into the impact of Canada’s immigration policies and history: how it treats humans as capital, and the role it plays in shaping the complex and contested the formation of a “Canadian identity.”

This exhibition will be present for viewing until April 18, 2021.

Migrant Dreams

“A powerful feature documentary by multiple award-winning director Min Sook Lee (El Contrato, Hogtown, Tiger Spirit) and Emmy award-winning producer Lisa Valencia-Svensson (Herman’s House) tells the under-told story of migrant agricultural workers struggling against Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) which treats foreign workers as modern-day indentured labourers. Under the rules of Canada’s migrant labour program, low-wage migrants are tied to one employer.”

This exhibition will be present for viewing until April 18, 2021.
