The 2017 Lincoln MKZ: Responsive & Refined
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ is an athletic sedan. The 2.0L GTDI engine and Intelligent AWD combine for thrilling driving dynamics. At the same time, Lincoln’s midsize sedan is refined and comfortable. It’s appointed with standard Bridge of Weir Leather perfected over generations in Scotland, while the steering wheel is wrapped with Wollsdorf leather. The attention to detail and premium materials make a compelling case for the 2017 MKZ – especially when you consider the price.
2017 Lincoln MKZ Select (MSRP: $39,155)
The MKZ Select is the introductory trim level, but it comes with a remarkable array of standard features.
Other standard equipment includes:
- Adaptive HID headlights with LED signature lighting
- Genuine Wood Trim
- Intelligent AWD
2017 MKZ Hybrid
The Lincoln MKZ is also unique in Lincoln’s lineup because it offers a hybrid powertrain. The 2.0L iVCT Atkinson I-4 naturally sacrifices some power as compared to the standard engine (you still get 188 horsepower and 129 lb.-ft. of torque). But the fuel savings are tremendous.
The MKZ Hybrid is rated for 5.7 L/100 km in the city and 6.2 L/100 km on the highway. That’s roughly 80% better than the standard 2.0L GTDI engine (which, for the sake of fairness, is paired with AWD). Most manufacturers will make you pay extra for the fuel-saving, hybrid tech. Lincoln does not. Whether you opt for the Select or Reserve trim, the hybrid and gasoline models are basically the same price.
2017 MKZ Reserve (MSRP: $42,654)
Upgrading to the Reserve trim level of the MKZ brings a few interesting features. You get standard auto hold that lets you take your foot off the brake at red lights, only resuming motion when you press the accelerator. It offers a level of refinement that’s hard to reconcile to its modest price tag.
Standard MKZ Reserve Features Include:
- Rain-sensing wipers
- 19” 20-Spoke Magnetic-painted, machined aluminum wheels
- Automatic high beams
- Heated rear seats
- Perforated, leather-trimmed front seats
The Reserve trim also opens the door to some enticing optional equipment. Equipment like the twin-turbocharged V6 with 400 – yeah 400! – horsepower. There’s also a ton of available safety tech for those who like a little peace of mind.
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Pedestrian Detection
- Pre-Collision Assist
- 20-Speaker Revel Ultima Audio System
- Multicontour Front seats with Active Motion
The Lincoln MKZ lives in a sweet spot in the luxury sedan market. Few vehicles can achieve its standard of performance and luxury while maintaining a modest price point. And, with its remarkable arsenal of standard equipment, it surpasses the barren offerings of German competitors.
